May 2011: A walk in Kissena Park early in the morning means sharing the trails with countless dog walkers.
At this point, I turned off the trail and went up the hill toward the pond. There were more dog walkers at the top of the hill:
I followed this woman in the yellow jacket
for part of the trail through the woods:
for part of the trail through the woods:
Before long, she met up with
some other dog walkers that she knew:
some other dog walkers that she knew:
They chatted for a moment,
and all the dogs sniffed each other in greeting:

Then they all moved on, except for one unleashed dog
that continued to follow her for a while:

Then the woman stopped and turned
so that I caught her profile in my shot.
so that I caught her profile in my shot.
It wasn't until I was viewing the photos on my computer, that I realized I recognize her. This is the same woman who used to have a VERY large Doberman Pinscher (larger than I am tall!) that she used to let run unleashed on this trail.
A year or two ago, I had a bad experience with her and her dog! I was in this general area, taking photos, and her Doberman came around the corner, bounding toward me as though it were going to lunge! It scared the s**t out of me, and I instinctively screamed and doubled over to protect myself! This woman then sauntered around the corner, several lengths behind her dog, and gave me an incredulously dirty look, as though it were ME who had done something wrong! With my heart still racing from fright, I shouted that her dog should be on a leash, and not allowed to jump at people. She just gave me an icy, supercilious look and continued past me. I proceeded to shout a piece of my mind after her retreating figure!
After that day, I ran into her and her dog ~ always unleashed ~ many times on this same path. Each time I saw that dog coming, I would stop and brace myself, until they passed. She always gave me that same icy, supercilious look! And each time it happened, I regretted I had not had ample time or opportunity to get a photo of her and/or the dog, and perhaps try to report her. But I never did get a photo until now ~ and here she is, finally obeying the leash law with a new dog!!

And at the bottom of the hill:
And near the pond:
It really is a dog's world!!
