Fall 2010 Road Trip: Day 9

10/24/10:  Drive from Savannah to Chattanooga, TN and Emily's House!

Today is a driving day, from the eastern coast of Georgia to southeastern Tennessee = 375 miles!  It was a long but uneventful drive, and not much to see on the highway, except for the skyline of Atlanta.  (We did highway driving most of this trip, since it was such a long distance and we wanted to get to Emily's early enough to have some time to visit with her.)    The one memorable point on the drive was when we stopped to eat a late breakfast/early lunch.  I introduced Bob to Shoney's All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet (his first time at Shoney's)  and now I see we may never eat anywhere else for the rest of the trip!!!  :)

I didn't take any photos on the road today. We just zipped across Georgia at 70 miles per hour the whole time, with only a couple of rest stops.

We arrived in Chattanooga at Emily's house around 3:45PM.  We were warmly greeted and had a tour of her house, which I had never seen!  She's done alot of the work herself - renovated her bathroom, etc. -  and she's done a great job!!   I see alot of "Cash-Schreiber-Baruca" influence in her decorating style :)   It was great seeing all the old family photos she has hanging around!

After relaxing for a little while and catching up with Em, and getting to know her dogs, she gave us a driving tour of Chattanooga - which I have to admit was not at all like I had imagined - it's much better and nicer :)  One particular thing I wanted to see was the famous Chattanooga Choo-Choo which we had learned from our guidebooks had been converted to a hotel in the 1980's.  But it was all a touristy and fun experience anyway!

After our tour, we went to eat at Acropolis, and had a great meal.  And dessert to die for!  (We took the dessert home and had it for breakfast the next morning!)   Some more photos taken at Emily's after returning from dinner ... photos by Bob, who was having a great time snapping away!

We had a great time with Emily, but it was way too short!  She had to be at work at 5:45AM the next morning, so we all went to sleep early!

Another great day, especially the latter part!
