4th of July ~ 2010

Yikes, I don't remember a heat wave like this for a long while.  It was 102 degrees today at 6:00PM and tomorrow is supposed to be worse!  (105 and counting!)  Despite it all, I'm keeping the camera cooled off, and at the ready!

So yesterday was officially the 4th of July!!  We really tried to get some fireworks shots, without battling the crowds to get up close and personal.  But we were thwarted at every attempt - they wouldn't let us onto the Queens College campus (there's a high spot near the Library with a great view of the Manhattan Skyline!) and from the walkways over the Long Island Expressway there were just way too many lights in competition!  Oh well, someday I'll see some really great fireworks, and get some great shots of them too!

I did get a shot once upon a time - it wasn't the 4th of July and it was over a year ago, when I wasn't as good a photographer,  but it keeps me hopeful!  I'll just pretend I took them last night...if you can pretend that I'm MUCH better now!
Meanwhile, the shot I DID get last night was a nice one of the Unisphere in Flushing Meadow Park!  I've been meaning for a while to get one of the globe all lit up at night:
