October 9, 2010: George Schreiber Jr. was born in 1920 and grew up in Olean/Allegany, NY where he still lives. He went to school and worked on the family farm. He served in Europe with the Army during the Big War WWII. He married my Mom in 1948, at age 28. I was born in 1949, when he was 29. He has always been my champion, for my entire life. I feel so fortunate to have had him in my life for so long!
My Dad turned 90 on October 9th. I drove upstate to spend the weekend with him. He didn't know I was coming, and my arrival was a surprise. We celebrated all weekend, first with the Schreiber-Martiny families (his older sister), Sunday noon at a Church luncheon, and again at my brother's house Sunday evening in a combined party with his great-granddaughter Cecilia, born on his birthday one year ago!
It was a weekend for memories. Mine were of my childhood hero (my Dad!) and his went way back his own boyhood! Old photos arrived in cards from friends and family, some singly and some in the form of photo albums! He happily poured over them for hours!
